Advent Devo Scriptures 2024

Each year, we create a special Advent Devotional to guide us daily through the season of Advent, leading up to Christmas.

Would you like to join us in this meaningful journey?

We are currently seeking contributors to write brief devotions based on selected themes, and children's art based on the story of Christmas, for inclusion in the 2024 Advent Devotional.

What is involved?

 1. To begin, please select a theme about which you have a story to share from the list below:

  • A time when you felt a sense of longing. (Week 1)
  • A time when you had to wait for something important. (Week 2)
  • A time when you experienced simplicity in life. (Week 3)
  • A time when you felt humility or saw humility in others. (Week 4)

2. Now, select and sign up for a scripture in the week of the theme you have chosen (eg if you chose "a time when you felt a sense of longing" (which is week 1), then you need to choose a scripture from those listed as "Week 1."

3. Next, compose your devotion using the following guidelines:

  • Scripture: Start by reading the provided scripture passage and its context (read the section it is contained in).
  • Personal Story: Share a personal story or experience that connects to the week’s theme.
  • Connect to Scripture: Briefly relate your story to the scripture passage.
  • Encouragement: Offer one sentence to encourage the reader during their Advent journey.
  • Closing Prayer: Write a short prayer (1-2 sentences) asking God to guide the reader through the Advent season.
  • Don't forget to include a title for your devotion

Please submit your devotion of between 250-300 words to joanna@frontstreetumc.org and stephan@frontstreetumc.org by November 10.

Questions? Contact Stephan at stephan@frontstreetumc.org or call 227.6263. Thank you!

Calling all up-and-coming artists!

For any of our youngest disciples with an eye for creativity, we want to invite you to create a work of art to be included in Front Street UMC’s advent devotional.

Parents, it’s not too early to think about Christmas; and certainly not to teach your children about the birth of Jesus! So break out those nativity scenes early, or read them part of the story from the Bible. Ask them what part of the story they loved the most, and then draw it out!

Email a photo of the artwork to joanna@frontstreetumc.org or drop your submission in the church office by November 10.
